Meav, a former member of the Celtic choral group Anuna, made a stir with her self-titled solo debut album back in 1998. And with good reason - her voice is downright gorgeous. It's delicate and fragile with lots of inflection, allowing the listener to sense every bit of emotion she wishes to display. SILVER SEA features a series of Irish air-style pieces with a nautical/seaside theme. The instrumentation (harp, piano, cello, strings) is simple and arranged in such a way that Meav's vocals are always the clear centerpiece. The lyricism is top-notch as well, featuring haunting stories that borrow from traditional regional folksongs, Celtic mythology and classic literature. One particular song - "Full Fathom Five," is a beautiful Shakespeare-inspired piece that marks the songstress' first compositional attempt.
