When David Lanz's 1996 album SACRED ROAD was originally released, it contained piano melodies that had been enhanced by strings, rhythm and other orchestral elements. Recently, Lanz happened upon the initial recordings that he created for the album, which were mainly solo piano, and was impressed how well they sounded. So much so, that he decided to re-release the album featuring these solo piano renditions, as well as alternate takes with lessened orchestration and a few previously unreleased tracks. By stripping away much of the gloss, you are able to appreciate the Lanz's emotive manner of playing, and witness the strength of Lanz's compositions.
