Originally conceived by Steven Halpern as a personal recording to augment his own meditation practice, TONAL ALCHEMY features the incredibly calming sounds of an assortment of Tibetan and Japanese temple bowls that he amassed over the last couple decades. Besides the haunting vibrations and "bell-like" striking sounds, the album features the chanting of "Om" (based on Halpern's "harmonic choir") and swirling synthesizer ambience. This is music per se, but an atmosphere. It transports you to some place ancient, primal and remote where you can immerse yourself in healing energy and meditative bliss. The multi-dimensional nature of the soundscape makes this recording a real treat for listeners with good sound systems.
