As an artist. R. Carlos Nakai has always been about pushing the boundaries of what one considers "traditional" Native American music. This album, with his quartet of vocalist Mary Redhouse, multi-instrumentalist Amochip Dabney and percussionist Will Clipman, is a showcase for this experimental spirit of Nakai's. Featured are a dozen tracks that range is tempo and mood from haunting solos to light jazz sounds to percolating salsa. Nakai's flute harmonies interweave with piano, synthesizers, drums/percussion and horns, creating music that is uplifting, contemporary and spirited.
