Two native cultures converge on this collaborative effort between famed Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and Hawaiian slack key guitarist Keola Beamer. OUR BELOVED LAND offers unique interpretations of traditional Hawaiian pieces performed using flute, guitar, light percussion and chant. The overall vibe of the album is mellow and the Native American influence is the more dominant of the two; in other words, this does feel like an R. Carlos Nakai album. Beamer's guitar is a welcome addition, providing a sense of warmth to the overall sound. Together, this bi-cultural blend does a great job of displaying the unity between Hawaiian and Native American traditional music, rather than the differences.
