One of the reasons David Lanz is so successful as a pianist is because he is gifted in two different ways. First, obviously, is his skill at the keys. Lanz has a touch that is light and elegant and he's not afraid to utilize the full range of keys at his disposal, rather than using high notes as a crutch as some do. His other proficiency is his compositional skills. Lanz has a talent for crafting songs that tug at the heart without ever being too cloying. NIGHTFALL is a great example of this. As you can see by titles like "Faces of the Forest" and "Leaves on the Seine," natural themes are emphasized with this album and they are handled wonderfully. Each tune is fantastically visual, conjuring up images of quiet countrysides and secluded woodland paths.
