NATURAL WONDERS OF THE WORLD BY SOLITUDES
(DAN GIBSON)
In 1997, CNN compiled a list of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Including the Grand Canyon, Victoria Falls in Africa, the Harbor of Rio de Janeiro, the Great Barrier Reef, Mexico's Paricutin Volcano, Mount Everest and the Aurora Borealis (as visible from Canada), the choices cover the globe, presenting a cross-section of some of the most beautiful and scenic locales in existence. Somerset Entertainment composer Chris Phillips took up the daunting task of creating a musical tribute to each of these grandiose landmarks, and the stirring results populate this album. Each selection is soft and peaceful with a hint of majesty. Influences from the various cultures color the album, like the subtle African rhythm of "Victoria Falls" and the serene panflutes and somber tones of "Paricutin Volcano." The rest of the tracks feature a blend of piano, flutes, keyboards and guitar, blended with nature sounds.
