LIVING TEMPLES BY DAVID LANZ

LIVING TEMPLES BY DAVID LANZ The elegant musical interplay of David Lanz and Gary Stroutsos is like the coming together of earth and sky. Sky in the compositions of Lanz, whose silky piano pieces are filled with gentle, uplifting energy; and earth in the work of Stroutsos, whose mastery lies in his Native American-tinged flute and percussion work. Such organic connotations certainly come to mind in listening to their album LIVING TEMPLES, which doubles as a soundtrack to Jan Nickman's film journey across the wondrous landscape of the American Southwest. The music has a slow, mellow feel with a tone that hints at the haunting introspection of Native American melodies, featuring instrumental accents like violin, cello, bass, synthesizer (Jonn Serrie) and percussion (Glen Velez). The compositions also have a peaceful, spiritual quality to them, making them feel like instrumental prayers.
