Deuter usually releases albums that fall in one of two categories: either they are more rhythmic and borrow from an extensive palette of ethnic instrumentation (for example, SUN SPIRIT), or they are mystical and deeply ambient (BUDDHA NATURE). KOYASAN resides in category number two. The album is a shimmering soundscape of haunting shakuhachi flutes and Chinese erhu, immersed in silky, flowing synth atmosphere. The comparison to BUDDHA NATURE is a fitting one, as both albums carry a similar tone - enchanting Asian sounds and a mood that falls somewhere between reflective and melancholy. The album was designed to create a serene environment for Reiki and the healing arts, and it certainly succeeds in drawing you in to its powerfully tranquil and intimate world of sound.
