JOURNEY WITH THE WHALES is an exploration of sound with the majestic whales of the world. These whale sounds were digitally recorded by nature sounds expert, Dan Gibson, giving the project an incredible authenticity and realism. Rather than confining themselves to compositions, musicians responded to the nature sounds and improvised accordingly. The result is an ambient, freeflowing atmosphere. Composer Ron Allen plays piano, bamboo and clay flutes, percussion and synthesizers. Further accompaniment is provided by acoustic and electric guitars, acoustic bass and environmental percussion. Some of the wildlife species heard include the humpback whale, killer whale, bald eagle, white-crowned sparrow, old squaw duck, and the red-throated loon, among others.
