JOURNEYS BY CARLOS NAKAI

journeys BY CARLOS NAKAI When one thinks of Native American music, odds are, the Native American flute is one of the first instruments to come to mind. With its range of tonalities and haunting voice, the flute expresses the simplistic beauty of the Navajo culture. JOURNEYS is one of the early albums from championed flutist R. Carlos Nakai. The album features six melody-driven and seven improvisational compositions predominately performed on solo flute (a few also have light synthesizer textures, chanting and nature sounds). Quiet, prayerful and more than a little reminiscent of the music of Asian instrumentalist Riley Lee, JOURNEYS is a wonderful album for relaxation and rumination.
