Emile Pandolfi outdoes himself with HOW SWEET THE SOUND, his album of solo piano works with an inspirational theme. From beginning to end, the album flows with playful elegance and class. Pandolfi's arrangements on the album are very refreshing; he covers popular songs like "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "The Prayer," but he takes a very improvisational approach that breathes new life into the songs. He uses a lot of smooth arpeggios and asides to the main melodies to give the songs grandeur. He also does a great job of building the melodies in many of the songs from soft, tender ballads to majestic crescendos - an effect that gives even a lullaby like "All Through the Night" a sense of wistful romanticism. Other highlights include the serene "Be Still My Soul" and, of course, the sweet sound of "Amazing Grace."
