Like the chili peppers that so often find their way into South of the Border cuisine, heat and spice are trademarks of the guitar playing of Frank Corrales. The music of HOT! bears a resemblance to Corrales' work on CANTINA CLASSICS album, likewise emphasizing the kind of music that you would expect to hear in a dusty Mexican cantina. The songs are joyful and breezy with enough sunshine to make you feel as if you're on vacation in Veracruz. Corrales' distinctive Mexican guitar is the central instrument on each of the cuts, with Ben Tavera King lending a hand in terms of guitar duties on many of the tracks. Backing the pair is Corrales' band, whose additional instrumentation gives the music a rhythmic kick and a festive flair.
