With her first couple of albums for Spirit Voyage Music, Snatam Kaur matched her sweet, serene voice with sacred prayers and ancient texts of the Sikhs. The results were gorgeous; the music was spiritual and timeless, yet fresh and contemporary. GRACE marks the next step in the musical career of Kaur, showing her growth as an artist and offering a highly enjoyable hour of music to boot. The arrangements on GRACE have much greater crossover potential than those of her previous albums; they feature a heavier use of Western instrumentation (guitars, violin, keyboards) and are a lot more "catchy". Thomas Barquee's role as co-producer no doubt has something to do with this - the man is a master when it comes to adapting kirtans and chants for Western audiences. All in all, GRACE is a beautiful album - a must hear for fans of contemporary sacred music.
