Brian Hughes, Craig Dobbins and Alain Eskinasi, collectively known as 3rd Force, turn the grooves down to a simmer with their ultra-smooth release GENTLE FORCE. Featuring their usual fluctuating roster of supporting players (Jimmy Sommers, Craig Chaquico and Grant Geissman are a few of those making an appearance on this go round), the trio lay down the funk with ten prime cuts of contemporary jazz. Take "Aquamarine" for example. The airy, flute-laden opening might suggest an ambient track, yet when Geissman's bluesy guitar makes an appearance, all early preconceptions are forgotten. On another track, "Grateful for Love," the yin and yang of Rebecca Carlish's breezy, subdued vocals and Sommers' aggressive sax, complements 3rd Force wonderfully and makes for stimulating interplay.
