John Whelan apparently has a lot of friends, as 14 of them appear on Celtic Crossroads. That's not counting The Sirius String Quartet. The latest in a remarkable series of Celtic albums from Narada (the series includes Celtic Spirit) is a contemporary Celtic masterpiece. Nine of the 13 tracks are Whelan originals, with nearly an hour of music between them. He makes good use of his friends in what is essentially a small Celtic orchestra, crafting a rich, full-bodied sound that is deliciously satisfying.
