Cusco, the duo of producers Michael Holm and Kristian Schultze, has been crossing multicultural folk and tribal music with electronic ambience for almost two decades. Aptly titled given the group's penchant for focusing on a different ethnic culture with each release, ESSENTIAL CUSCO compiles an assortment of Cusco's greatest hits from their many releases. For those unfamiliar with the group's brand of new age music, Cusco mixes up panflutes, guitars, dramatic percussion and keyboard wizardry into a catchy concoction of earthy grooves. Despite their varying themes, South American elements are the most prominent and factor into the group's releases most prominently. Among the hits featured here are "Montezuma," "Flute Battle," "Oracle at Delphi" and "Da Gama" (featuring guest guitarist Ottmar Liebert).
