The mystical ambiance of Cairo is the central flavor on this concoction of indigenous acoustic instrumentation and electronic elements from Phil Thornton and Hossam Ramzy. Despite its contemporary bent, the colors of Egypt come through very strongly on this recording. The subtle beats and synthesizer backdrops serve to add richness to the overall soundscape, yet it's the swirling ney (flute) melodies, exotic qanun (zither) and fretwork on the oud (lute) that are first to grab the listener's attention. This is Thornton and Ramzy's third Egyptian-themed collaboration and once again they succeed in painting a tantalizing musical portrait of a land shroud in mystery and majesty.
