From 1956-1964, Fitzgerald recorded the songs of Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Duke Ellington, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Harold Arlan, Jerome Kern and Johnny Mercer in songbook sets. Starting with the uptempo, finger-snapping swinger "Something's Gotta Give," the album changes pace with "Love Is Here To Stay," followed by "Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered," Rodgers and Hart's recognizable melody with Fitzgerald's careful handling of the lyrics' meaning. The rest of the collection features some of the best ballads ever written. "So Wonderful" and "Love for Sale" are two highlights that feature lush arrangements and Fitzgerald's voice at its most powerful. A must for fans of the unique jazz vocalizations of Ella Fitzgerald.
