The vibrant sounds of a tranquil Irish glen are the centerpiece of this album from "Solitudes." As lily white mists rise over the rolling greenery, a chorus of birds erupts in song. A nearby stream breaks the stillness with its babbling waters, which lazily flow around a tree-lined bend and out of sight. Joining Dan Gibson's always-lush nature recordings is an assortment of traditional Celtic ballads and airs, performed on instruments like the uilleann pipes, pennywhistle and Irish harp. The line-up includes such Irish classics as "The Water is Wide" and "The Last Rose of Summer," as well as poignant beauties like "The Arran Boat" and "Hector the Hero." Take a deep breath - you can almost smell the cool dewy air.
