DRUM SPIRIT BY STEVEN HALPERN & THE SOUND MEDICINE BAND
DRUM SPIRIT was born out of the recording sessions Steven Halpern had with Chief Sonne Reyna for some of his past albums. After reviewing the material, Halpern's creative juices started flowing and he realized that there were even more ways in which he could use the music to create healing soundscapes. As such, Sonne's heartbeat drum and rattles/shakers lie at the heart of DRUM SPIRIT, with the addition of light jazz textures and a touch of groove. Sax player Amochip Dabney (R. Carlos Nakai Quartet) joins Halpern alongside flutist Jorge Alfano to give the music a little multicultural influence. Halpern further fleshes out the recording with piano, synth atmosphere and Native American flute. A wonderful blend of ancient and modern shamanic sensibilities.
