The subtitle of Steve Hall's DIVINE LIGHT is "Music to Inspire," and he certainly lives up to that promise with this album of inspirational gems that includes songs from the worlds of gospel, pop, jazz and traditional hymns. Hall, whose light, elegant hand at the piano is always a delight, joins forces this time around with the equally talented Peggy Duquesnel for an album of piano duets with light backing orchestration. Both pianists accent each other perfectly, capturing a sense of harmony and synergy while giving the songs the added depth dueling pianists can provide. Besides being stylistically diverse, the album features some very interesting medleys of Christian hymns with similar-sounding classical pieces. For example, "Holy God, We Praise Thy Name" is fused with Lakme's "Flowet Duet." It's that kind of inventiveness that makes this album a step above the rest.
