It's daybreak at Trout Lake, a secluded body of water in eastern Washington State. As the first rays of the morning sun reach over the hilly landscape, nature awakens. At first it's just the occasional song of a robin or the sound of fish stirring in the water. Soon, however, the sky is illuminated with a golden yellow glow, the fresh smell of dew caresses the senses and the melodic tunes of birds can be heard all around. The gruff caws of the red-winged blackbird are intertwined with the low-pitched squawk of the Canadian goose and lively melodies of small tree birds, like finches, thrushes and sparrows. This recording, from Bernie Krause, features two different listening experiences - the first track captures the sounds of the northern end of the lake and the second the south.
