Like most of the world's rainforests, those of Costa Rica are shrinking from the effects of deforestation and the logging industry. Costa Rica's Corcovado region is one of the few forests that is partially protected and sheltered from the outside world. This recording, from Bernie Krause, plunges the listener into an environment teeming with life, from exotic bird calls (parrots, parakeets, toucans) to the haunting cries of howler monkeys. The recording quality is top-notch and captures the environment in such a way that it seems untouched from the outside world, like a snapshot of a long-lost era. Other species featured include: several varieties of frogs, fruit bats, insects and a range of different birds.
