ANCESTRAL VOICES is the third collaboration between Navajo (Ute) flutist R. Carlos Nakai and guitarist William Eaton. Themed after the contributions and traditions of America's indigenous people, the album captures the wonderful interplay of the two artists; the wandering Native American flute melodies of Nakai match up wonderfully with the acoustic guitar undertones of Eaton. Of special mention on the release are the tracks "Earth Chant" and "Many Flags," both of which feature the Black Lodge Singers. The latter is the song sung during the presentation of the American flag at Native American pow-wows. This album was nominated for "Best Traditional Folk album" at the 1994 Grammy awards.
