USING OUR SHOPPING CART
Shopping is very easy using our shopping basket feature. Similar to shopping baskets on other sites, our functionality lets you accumulate items as you browse, and keeps a running total for you.
When you see an item you'd like to purchase,
click the add to shopping cart image or in some
cases the CD cover. By clicking the shopping
cart image or CD cover, you are adding one (1) of
that particular item to your running total. This
shopping cart image or CD cover is usually
immediately adjacent to the item that you are
viewing.
At the top of all pages with products for sale we
provide links to view your shopping basket and/or
to check out. Keep in mind that you can add as
many items as you like to your basket without
actually having to purchase them. The shopping
basket system just keeps track of what you take
off the "virtual store shelves." You are not
charged until you go through the checkout
process, where you will fill out all your billing
information, along with either your credit card information or your PalPay information, and hit the "Submit" button.
SHOPPING SECURITY
People tend to be cautious when buying things
online. Many feel that by submitting their credit card information over the Internet, they risk having it extracted or stolen by hackers or internet thieves. In reality, there is little difference between having your credit card processed at a department store checkout terminal, and submitting your credit card through a Web-based secure checkout procedure like the one at Silverlake Music. In both instances your personal information is being transferred over phone lines and is subject to, on rare occasions, theft and illegal use. Even "old fashioned" telephone transactions over voice lines are insecure (especially over wireless connections) since they are subject to eavesdropping.
To protect against potential security threats to
our customers, Silverlake Music has set up a
secure checkout procedure using the Netscape SSL
(Secure Sockets Layer) protocol for online
transactions. This means that all information
submitted by you is encrypted or scrambled for
your safety and privacy. (Your web browser will
verify this by showing a solid locked padlock or
solid key icon on the status bar.) Even if
someone has access to an internet connection your
data is passing through, they still have to
capture it and decipher it. In many cases this is
more secure than the way most of us use our check
or credit card purchasing now.
