If one were to choose an icon to represent the vast landscape of contemporary instrumental music, it would be hard to ignore the luster of one of the genre's shining stars - Yanni. Over the last two decades he has become a household name, selling over 18 million records, having his music played during every Olympics competition since 1984 and performing on numerous widely watched TV specials. His characteristic displays of symphonic fireworks have rocked the Acropolis and touched the Taj Mahal, and the road doesn't end there. After a five-year hiatus, he's back on tour and about to present a new album - ETHNICITY, themed after the cultural universality of his music. For the first time on a studio album, lyrics were used in many of the songs, including a vocal version of his classic "Secret Vows," sung with power by Alfreda Gerald. Amid his sweeping synthesizer/piano spectacles, Yanni weaves sounds from around the globe - a little Middle Eastern groove here, a little African rhythm there - resulting in his richest work to date.
