Hilary Stagg was working as an electrician when he heard Swiss harp sensation Andreas Vollenweider in concert. At that moment, the Northern California native was inspired to learn all he could about the electro-acoustic harp. A few years later, he was releasing his own albums, using his knowledge as an electrician to amplify his instrument to suit the soft, dreamy music he was developing. Stagg also credits the sweet melodic stylings of Loggins & Messina, the Doobie Brothers, and the Moody Blues as influences. Over the course of his recordings, Stagg has grown increasingly accomplished as a performer and composer.
BEYOND THE HORIZON BY HILARY STAGG
After listening to the heartfelt, sensitive playing style of harpist Hilary Stagg, it's almost hard to believe that before turning to music he worked as an electrician. Stagg's instrument of choice is the electric-acoustic harp, which produces a sound similar to a normal harp, only with a tinnier, more reverberated effect. Self composed, produced and performed, BEYOND THE HORIZON is a showcase for the artist's beautiful, uplifting melodies. Including a stunning rendition of "Pachelbel's Canon in D," the gently flowing "Sunlight in the Rain," and the paradise-found quaintness of "Sweet Return," the album's silky smooth pieces almost guarantee repeated listenings.
