Like the former release, SACRED MASSAGE features sublime synthesized atmospheres laced with a variety of acoustic instruments like the sax, clarinet, piano (performed by Peter Schimke), winds and didgeridoo. The soundscapes, which were mixed up by Soulfood's founder and resident studio wizard DJ Free, are spacious and blissful - perfect for those times when you crave rest and relaxation. Over an hour of tranquility awaits, sure to make your next reiki, meditation or massage session all the more worthwhile.
Similar in tone to the dreamy textures heard on their release TRANQUILITY, Soulfood's SPIRITUAL MASSAGE seeks to relieve stress and help listeners find a peaceful musical sanctuary in the process. DJ Free, the mastermind behind Soulfood, provides synthesized backdrops that ebb and flow like ocean waves. Jazz pianist Peter Schimke pierces the atmospheres with impromptu-style piano wanderings that fit well with the airy feel of the tracks. Elements like Native American flute, lapping waves, vocalise and the twinkle of bells also find their way into the mix, resulting in a sonic environment that's easy on the ears and sure to enhance practices like meditation, yoga and massage.
A follow-up in spirit to their 2002 healing arts-themed album YOGA RHYTHM, YOGA GROOVE offers a collage of catchy rhythms, Asian flavors and melodic keyboards. From the get-go, the music is very upbeat and user-friendly - partially due to the infectious rhythms lain down by Brent Lewis, who gives the music a tribal touch. Vocalese and chant samples are sprinkled throughout, making the music feel Eastern in nature (a quality which is enhanced by mild use of sitar on some of the tracks). As the name suggests, the album was designed with yoga in mind; and to that end, the music would work well for faster yoga workouts or trance dancing. The producers at Soulfood worked hand in hand with Yoga instructors, including Present Moment Retreat instructor CJ Page, to ensure an atmosphere that works perfectly with the healing art form.
