Ruben Romero's "snowflakes and stucco" holiday albums never fail to impress with their unique hybrid of Latin guitar rhythms and Native American influence - a sound that perfectly captures the essence of New Mexico. ADOBE CHRISTMAS walks in those same snowy footprints. Romero's renditions of traditional Christmas fare are inspired and warmly comforting; they provide an alternative to the common arrangements while maintaining the heart and soul of those original songs. Of note is a highly enjoyable suite of different selections from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" and a take on "We Three Kings" that features Native American chant. Romero also peppers the album with several original compositions, which fit seamlessly with the other pieces.

Flamenco guitar fans usually fall into one of two camps - there are those who enjoy the smoothed out, digitally enhanced vibes of Nuevo flamenco, and then there are those who believe true flamenco should be raw and acoustic. If you fall under the latter category, Ruben Romero's FLAMENCO FIRE with certainly light a fire under you. Recorded during two live performances in Colorado, this one hour set of nimble guitar playing highlights Romero's incredible virtuosity with the instrument. His playing is earthy and technically impressive, without accompaniment or any sort of electrical enhancement. Most of the material here, save for an inspired rendition of Tarrega's "Recuerdos de la Alhambra," is original material. A highlight is Romero's four part "Four Seasons of Love," which he performs with fellow flamenco guitarist Roberto Gonzalez.
