Archaeology is always an important element in the Coyote Oldman recordings. In Compassion you will hear the high earthy tones of a thousand year old clay flute of Central America, along with our unusual collection fo Lakota flutes, Incan panpipes, and Medicine flutes.
Barry Stramp's masterful playing of the traditional South American kena (end blown cane flute) adds another new element to this Coyote Oldman recording, along with the powerful presence of his latest generation of radical sound manipulation art and studio engineering.

FLOATING ON EVENING
This album is built on the precious moments discovered while artist Michael Graham Allen was paddling along the Otter River and playing flute in the mesmerizing twilight. Aside from being the principal flute player, Allen personally constructed all of the American and Incan Pan flutes used on this recording, (except for the small medicine whistles heard on "Clouds Ripple" and "Otter Visit," which were made by his young children.) He is accompanied beautifully on a grand piano and acoustic guitar. FLOATING ON EVENING offers songs from the heart in the timeless language of the human spirit.

HOUSE MADE OF DAWN
Coyote Oldman's tenth release, and possibly his finest recording yet. His subtle, creative approach to the Native American flute has inspired a host of imitators, but no one has matched their inspired studio transformation of these archaic instruments of wood and breath into the ecstatic realm of ethereal sonics.

IN MEDICINE RIVER
In Medicine River overflows with unusual musical instruments: traditional Native American flutes of North America, Incan panpipes of South America, new experimental wooden flutes, thousand year-old clay flutes of Central America, and drums, bells, and rattles from the world over.

LANDSCAPE
The skin tent crackles as a small head peaks into the flint cold air. Brilliant stars above, dawn colors in the East. All about stand the great glaciers and snow, wonderfully shaped by the blizzard. The child is momentarily transfixed by such strange beauty, the awesome landscape. Others stir, the rattle of stone and bone points of spears remind them of their hunger. Today we hunt. The travelers move into the gathering daylight. Ancestors of Europeans, Asians and Native Americans, facing the enormous challenge of the last Ice Age.

RAINBIRD by COYOTE OLDMAN
For thousands of years, the Anasazi culture populated the "Four Corners" region of the Southwestern United States. Although the culture itself vanished somewhere around the 14th century, it gave way to the modern-day Pueblo cultures of the region and left a plethora of artifacts, among them striking wooden flutes. RAINBIRD, from Coyote Oldman, takes its name from an unusual bird that figures into the legends and myths of several North American cultures. Michael Graham Allen worked with researchers to help him craft a replica of the ancient Anasazi flute, which he plays with subtlety and beauty on this release. Most of the cuts on this two-disc album feature the flute performed solo without any background accompaniment. The second disc features a bonus CD-ROM video about the Rainbird.
We are flowing in time, in darkness and in light. We are made of time, an enormous amount of time. Our Galaxy turns like a great island of stars - 80,000 light years across - a buoyant floating jewel. It is where we live and it is made of stars, 200 billion stars. But mostly our galaxy is made of time. And there are other galaxies:
billions. We are part of this, we are made of star death and star birth, but mostly we are made of time. We are the children that gaze in wonder. We are The Shape of Time.

UNDER AN ANCIENT SKY by COYOTE OLDMAN
Since the beginning of Coyote Oldman's recording career, musicians Michael Graham Allen and Barry Stramp have resided on the quiet, introspective side of the Native American flute spectrum. Their music captures the organic majesty of America's mountains and plains, while simultaneously taking one to a place that is dreamy and thoroughly peaceful. In the case of the serene album UNDER AN ANCIENT SKY, Coyote Oldman leans more heavily toward music on the ethereal side. Their trademark flute playing is present throughout the album; however, the winds are wrapped in lush layers of tender synthesizer ambience. The effect is very atmospheric, making the album one to reach for when you are looking for music that will calm your nerves and immerse you in tranquility.
