TERRY OLDFIELD was born in London, England in 1949 and spent his early childhood in Reading, later attending a Benedictine Monastery School. Terry's earliest musical experiences were in the myriad of folk clubs spring-up around the UK in the late 60s and early 70s, listening to the songs of Leonard Cohen, Bert Jansch, John Renbourne, Dylan.
Terry left school at 16 to travel the world and worked as a roadie for various bands including the Byrds, setting-up stage and sound mixing systems. During an extended stay on the Greek island of Hydra, he took up his first musical instrument, the flute. Says Terry "I think it was learning to play in this way, with no formal guidance, that allowed me to develop the ability to compose music. I spent many happy days improvising tunes and discovering scales and arpeggios for myself, and soon started to teach myself to write these things down". Terry's only formal music training was in Agra, India where he spent some time learning to play the Tablas.
In the early 70s, Terry and his brother Mike, formed a band called 'Barefoot' playing rock'n'roll at colleges and clubs throughout the UK. Mike later went on to record the highly successful 'Tubular Bells' and later Terry played the flute in the famous live performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.
Terry's career began in the earnest when he was asked by the BBC to compose music for scenes called Great Railway Journeys of the World. Since then Terry has composed music for over 50 film and TV productions, receiving two Emmy nominations for Land of the Tiger and Twilight of the Dreamtime and a BAFTA nomination for the BBC series Kingdom of the Ice Bear. He also worked on Meerkats United, which in a recent National Television Poll was voted 'Best Wildlife Film Ever'.
ACROSS THE UNIVERSE BY TERRY OLDFIELD
Across the Universe takes us on a journey beyond the labyrinth of this world into the freedom and space that lies within.
The album unfolds with all the sense of wonder and awe of the spiritual journey. Soaring flutes combine with haunting vocals, keyboards and natural sounds to carry and guide us out of the darkness and into the light.
The distant drone of the didgeridoo ushers in the primitive and sacred tones of Australia, and offers a tribute to the Aboriginal culture. The deep sense of respect for the indigenous people can be felt as sections of rhythmic intensity invoke the Spirit of the Dreamtime.

Terry Oldfield created REIKI HARMONY with the goal of providing an hour of gentle, nurturing music that would enhance a session of holistic therapy, such as Reiki or massage. Judging by the beautiful music on this disc, he achieved his goal admirably. The album consists of five tracks, each over ten minutes in length, that ebb and flow with soothing synthesizer atmosphere, piano, crystal bowls and (most notably) the bamboo flute, a specialty of Oldfield's. "Om Shanti" also includes the light chanting on an ethereal choir, something fans of his previous releases will recognize. The second half of the album is more abstract and "zen"-like, featuring Oldfield's flute prominently alongside mild drone instruments, nature sounds and chimes.

SPIRIT OF THE WORLD BY TERRY OLDFIELD
With his newest release, Emmy nominated composer and musician Terry Oldfield pays tribute to many of the ancient cultures that have served as the foundation of our beliefs and understanding. Sweeping high and low over the continents, his music touches down in the lands of the Aborigines, the Native Americans, the Cambodians, the Greeks, the Africans and the Tibetans. It combines the deep resonance of the bamboo flute and the sweet trill of the ocarina with beautiful, echoing vocals and irresistible melodies, perfectly capturing the spirit of these wise and noble peoples and perfectly capturing the SPIRIT OF THE WORLD.
Terry Oldfield's journeys with the flute have taken him in many directions, allowing him to sample many different cultures. With A TIME FOR PEACE, the journey he takes is of the internal variety. Set against gentle nature ambience (bubbling water, birdsong, crickets), Oldfield constructs a tapestry of airy winds, cello, harp, guitar and synthesized atmosphere that fills the listener with quietude and aids in the release of tension. This is a beautifully soothing album that will make it easy for you to forget your cares and worries for a short while and embrace the healing power of music.
Turning Point was inspired by those early voyagers who were ready to leave behind everything familiar and sail through the oceans of peril into the great unknown. Writing this music just happened to coincide with a major transition in my own life, and it has been a new and exciting journey for me through some strange and wild waters. I hope the sense of "letting go" that I felt throughout the whole process comes through in the music.

YOGA HARMONY BY TERRY OLDFIELD
The bansuri flute has to be one of the most introspective instruments in existence; its pure tones are the very essence of tranquility. On Terry Oldfield's YOGA HARMONY, the bansuri flute is commingled with a subtle blend of instrumental textures, which include the sitar, tanpura, synthesizer mood and the enchanting twinkle of Tibetan temple bells. The music brings to mind the serene ambiance of the Himalayas and all the spiritual connotations that go with. The soundscapes are fairly sparse and bear an improvised quality. As such, they work well for activities that involve focus and clarity, like yoga (hence, the title), tai chi or mindfulness practices.
