Inspired by the different healing ceremonies of Native American culture, TOUCH OF THE DEER features warm, beautiful music that promotes peace and joy. The central instrument on the recording is the Native American flute, whose ruminative tones intermingle with acoustic guitar strumming, light rhythm, keyboard atmosphere, rattles and nature sounds. The opening track, "Sacred Renewal," starts the album on an upbeat note with its light fusion-style approach and interplay of flute and guitar. "Sparrow Spirits" strips the music down to the flute, played solo against a backdrop of chirping birds and outdoor ambience. Another highlight, "Peace Harvest," has stronger Native American overtones with percussion and plucked guitar that is used for beat. Throughout the album, the themes of reverence for nature abound, resulting in an album that captures the earthy tranquility of the Southwest.
