CUCHAMA takes its name from Mount Tecate southeast of San Diego, the "high exalted place" of the Yuma and Cochimi Indians, the place where they seek their spirit visions. The music has the fire and romance of polished flamenco with touch of Caribbean and jazz. Govi's stellar acoustic guitar is enhanced by his sitar and bass work alongside guest performances from Anugama (udu drum) and Karunesh (digital key board). The album is a signature piece for Govi and offers a wealth of enjoyment.
Govi sets the spirits soaring and the hips swaying on Guitar Odyssey, an intoxicating blend of guitars sweetened with breezy South American pan pipes and sensual rhythms. With a treasure chest full of tracks encompassing the high spirited 'Sails of Joy,' the soulful rhumba
of 'Treasure Bay,' and the romantic tenderness of 'Your Lingering Touch,' Govi's virtuosity is showcased on Guitar Odyssey, a truly joyful adventure.
Govi is a master of composing music that explores the softer side of the flamenco guitar. His albums, with their tropical rhythms, light bass and dreamy synthesizer mood, do a wonderful job of making you believe that you've embarked on a vacation to the Caribbean (or the Mediterranean, depending on the release), for a good 45 minutes. The languid luxury of Govi's music is explored in greater depth with HAVANA SUNSET, the first greatest hits offering from the guitarist. Featured here are some of his signature tunes, like "Andalusian Nights," "Gypsy Heaven," "Bumblebeat," "Persuasion" and more, filled with the colors of Latin America, Spain, Greece and even Asia. Great stuff here, this is "the" album to get if you want warm, pleasing, not-too-hard guitar music with an exotic flair.
If you've listened to Govi's last few albums, you've likely noticed a shift to more ethnic-based guitar in his music, something that started around the time of his MOSAICO album. JEWEL BOX continues to travel down this rabbit hole, capturing the flavors of Spain, the Middle East and India along the way. The music is sprightly and rhythmic, more so than his last few outings, with jazzy melodies, drone instruments aplenty and, of course, the voice of many different string instruments from Govi's arsenal (including the sitar and Turkish oud). "Sapphire Sky" comes close to the Govi of old with its upbeat melodies and flamenco rhythms, while "Diamond Sutra" sports a raga style with the sitar in the lead - a unique way of performing for the artist. The influence of Karunesh, who provides production support, is also noticeable across the album, especially in the synth use.
Govi, the master of melodies that reside on the softer side of the nouveau flamenco spectrum, presents his latest release MOSAICO, which features his characteristic breezy rhythms alongside a variety of ethnic textures. Want romance? How about something for relaxing with a good book? MOSAICO delivers with songs like "Spicy Dream," which features warm guitar with bits of well-placed sitar strumming for an enchanting effect. Another highlight, "Mosaico," calls to mind a sensual night in the tropics, with the waves crashing upon a seashore and the moon gleaming overhead. Special guests include Don Lax playing violin on "Mosaico" and the talents of Karunesh on several tracks.
No Strings Attached celebrates master guitarist Govi at his exuberant best. This album jumps with a lively, tropical beat. Govi's intoxicating rhythms spiced with Andean pan pipes, timbalis and Indian tablas lend a world music flavor to his dazzling virtuosity. No Strings Attached brings together his liveliest tracks in a free-spirited fiesta of sound, featuring selections from Guitar Odyssey, Passion & Grace, Cuchama, Heart of a Gypsy, and Andalusian Nights
With his fourth release for Higher Octave Music, Govi ups the spice quotient significantly as he explores a variety of exotic hues alongside his nimble guitar playing. SAFFRON & SILK is Govi's most ethnic flavored release to date, featuring such striking sounds as the sitar, Greek bouzouki, Turkish oud and Gypsy violin alongside the artist's trademark warm strumming. The result is an album that makes you feel like you've journeyed to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Southeast Asia all in the span of an hour. The title track is one of the album's most interesting tracks, as the main melody is performed with a Western feel on the sitar. Another highlight is the Middle Eastern-tinged "Road to Istanbul," which sports a variety of instruments indigenous to the region.
After three consecutive trips into the Top Ten of Billboard's new age charts, Govi looks to continue his success with SEVENTH HEAVEN. This release has a warm Latin flare, but distinguishes itself from its predecessors with unique styles and tones that keep the melodies fresh and original. The result is a breathtaking album that will make you feel like you're traveling the globe, bringing to mind thoughts of tropical sunsets and lazy days in the country. With so much personality and emotion, it's hard to deny that SEVENTH HEAVEN is a stunning example of musical grace at its finest.

YOUR LINGERING TOUCH
A charming collection of pieces from Govi's previous six albums on the Real Music label. Many "best of" albums have a rather haphazard feel to them, but this one holds together and makes perfect sense while providing a lovely overview of Govi's "Lovers Moon" can "Magellan's Beat." "Torero" smolders, "Sailing Away" drifts peacefully, and 'Sangria' is light and bubbly. Melodic and accessible, this is great music for a romantic picnic or garden party. It is complex enough to be completely involving, but smooth enough for a backdrop for other activities.
