Contemporary flutist Golana once again ponders the sights and sounds of the Native Southwest with this album of elegant flute pieces. LONE PINE CANYON features Golana's gentle flute playing against a dreamy backdrop of acoustic guitar, synthesizer mood, strings and piano. The music has a naturalness about it that calls to mind cherry-hued sunsets and windswept canyons. Like Golana's previous works, poignancy is a key element in these compositions. Each features an outpouring of emotion and soul that really touches the listener. Included is an assortment of original compositions as well as renditions of two classical music standards - Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" and "Piano Concerto No. 2."

Golana (a.k.a. Scott Cunningham) is a master of the Native American flute who has been making music for over a decade, and has racked up six NAMMY nominations in the process. One of the factors that makes his music so enjoyable is that his music has a lot of heart in it, not to mention a pervading sense of serenity. Both of those qualities are plentiful on MIRROR LAKE, which was inspired by the scenic mountainscapes of South Carolina. Golana's flute is front and center on each of these compositions, with backing Charlie Bisharat on violin, David Chamberlin on keyboards, Cameron Stone on cello and Scott Hartley and Rodger Whitten on piano. The mix of Native influences and classical instrumentation gives the music a nice blend of elegance and earthiness that will take you to a place of tranquility.
