Desert Wind - Andalin and Alan Scott Bachman - have pulled together an eclectic blend of classical, jazz, rock, and Middle Eastern-Mediterranean music. The instruments used include the Miyazawa silver/gold/platinum flute, acoustic grand piano, multiple keyboards, tabla, conga, bass and lead doumbek, riq, trap drums, chimes, shakers, gong, mandolin, acoustic and electric guitars. The rhythms include chiftitelli, saidi, bolero, bossa nova, rock, beladi, meringue and undefined.
Goddess-oriented group Desert Wind directs their focus on one specific deity this time around -"Gaia." Also known as the "Earth Goddess" or "Mother Earth," Gaia evokes a deep love for the planet, inspiring humans to live in harmony with nature. This album, produced by Alan Scott Bachman, is a collection of mid to upper tempo dance tracks designed for celebration and ritualistic purposes. A majority of the tracks are instrumental, employing a potent pop-friendly mix of percussion, synthesizers, keyboards and flutes. The two vocal tracks, "Gaia, Earth Goddess" and "Misirlou," feature the crystalline vocals of Kristin Gygi. Other highlights include "The Veil," an exotic take on Pachelbel's "Canon in D," and "Osiris," an enchanting number that blends lush rhythms with mystifying panflute melodies.
WORLD DANCE, a double CD for the price of one, contains over two and a half hours of enchanting music. It combines melodic, passionate melodies with exotic and moving rhythms, ranging from mesmerizing and hypnotic to uplifting and enticing. Instrumentation includes a unique blend of flutes, mandolins, dumbeks, tablas, pianos, guitars, violins and more. The first CD is instrumental, while the second includes vocal tracks such as the "Om Tara Chant" and the beautiful "La Llorona." The name of each of the 32 songs is listed on the back of the CD case, along with the song's corresponding world rhythm.
